I would not recommend getting anything fancy. $ 800 seems a bit high. The reason I say this because you're 13 and about to do a bit of growth. If you spend $ 800 on a nice bike, I doubt you will in a year. I'm not saying you should go to Wal-Mart, but do not get anything high end, unless you can get an agreement on this.

** Quick note on the FCR3 ... I bought a 2006 Giant FCR3 early spring of this year. Summer, I had repalce wheels. Part of the hub that the cassette cogs slide on was detached and began to squirm. The mechanics at my bike shop said he had never seen a formal presence so cheap. There was no clamp to secure it, as he was in a hurry and became dethroned. Apparently, Giant has decided to cut some corners with it. So if you ride hard, have apprehensions about the FCR3.

I'm also a roadie and I recommend OCR3 or even a OCR2. Since this is the end of the year, you may be able to seek agreement on a smoking '07. Have you looked at other brands. Giant does not usually reduce their prices by over 10%. The Diamondback Response Sport is a very good value in a rigid mountain bike that you have found a slim frame with relatively high mid-range components. The tube design is a modified top design build models borrowed from finer and Diamondback similar to some Specialized bikes.

The only problem is that the shift levers and front bar are not the same quality as the rest of the package. The platform pedals are OK for around town and park trails, but you can upgrade for serious track use only.

I combined this with a suspension seatpost quality that I find to be the optimum combination of lightness and control with some relaxation of the hardest shots. The site Diamondback and some retailers have a more complete description of the image size that suits your size. The advantage of buying from Amazon is that you can easily get XS, S, or XL sizes rather than having to settle for Medium or Large in a local store or shop for sporting goods.
